Charles Bassey records triple-double in high school debut

Charles Bassey made a big statement in his first regular season game for St. Anthony Catholic High School on Tuesday 17 November.

The 6’10 kid from Lagos, Nigeria registered 20 points, 15 rebounds, 10 blocks, and 3 steals as his team defeated Stony Point High School 81 – 64.

Bassey is no ordinary hype. The kid nicknamed ‘Big Ticket’ due to the array of talents he packs in his 215-pound frame just turned fifteen on October 28 but has already got his name on the lips of about every notable scout in the United States. BWB wrote a feature on him recently projecting him as the next best thing out of Nigeria since Hakeem Olajuwon. But some basketball pundits think there are aspects of his game that makes him comparable to either Lebron James or Kobe Bryant.

Buck Harvey of the San Antonio Express-News thinks the kid is the biggest basketball talent out of San Antonio since the legendary Shaquille O’Neal.

While these comparisons and his game seem rather out of this world, Bassey is just like every other kid his age – bright, humble, and respectful.
