Rita James led the team with 11 points and 4 rebounds, while Eneh Adams added 7 points and 11 rebounds. Chinelo Ibeh picked up 5 steals, 7 rebounds and 5 points despite struggling from the field with only 1 made field goal on 8 attempts. Ruth Udueyin, team captain, scored 7 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Mary Akinbode-James was also impressive on the board, picking up 10 rebounds in addition to 5 points and 4 steals.
Rkia Mouharrar scored a game-high 14 points for Morocco but it was not enough as the team struggled the entire game against the Nigerian team.
Despite having only nine active players on its roster since the tournament opened on Saturday, the Nigerian team has put up impressive performances in its three games. Last Saturday, Nigeria defeated Egypt, runner-up in the last three editions of FIBA Africa Women U-16, 54 – 52. The following day, Nigeria defeated hosts Madagascar 60 – 53.
Nigeria has now advanced to the quarter final stage of the tournament.
